Intro
Chess computer programmes have been around almost as long as
computers have been functioning. So its no surprise that Chess
master
8000 builds on this great heritage and should be viewed with a
certain amount of reverence. Perhaps one of the greatest challenges
that the designers have had to come up with, was a programme that
would tax even a chess master and yet not overwhelm someone
new to chess. Thankfully as far as I can see, the designers have got
the game just about perfect. I am not, by any means a chess master,
but I have played chess all of my adult life and have found a worthy
opponent in Chess master 8000.
Highs
At its very top setting this game offers the player the most
powerful chess opponent available on a desktop computer. It offers a
computer opponent for all levels of chess skill. You can create your
own opponent, right down to their opening move. Chess master can act
as a chess teacher, it will never allow you to make an illegal move.
I have stopped using several other computer chess programmes simply
because their ideas as to what a chess board should look like on a
computer screen are visually distasteful. OK, give me the look and
most importantly the feel of real chess set any day. But the 16 bit
full colour graphics chess sets used in Chess master 8000 are
thankfully well up to the job. This could well be the only chess
game you ever have to buy!
Lows
None.
Conclusion For all chess players that need a computer based opponent ether
for play, teaching or training. Almost regardless to your present
chess skills. Chess master 8000 should seriously be on your buy
list. As for me, I now have an opponent that will never get tired,
never let me make an illegal move, and just perhaps turn me into a
better chess player. |
