For those experienced with Windows XP, I would recommend  the Windows Vista "Step By Step".

Step By Step Rear Cover

This book offers a wealth of information and starts off with a quick reference section which is linked to the main chapters. Each chapter then has several relevant sections, followed by key points and then keyboard shortcuts.

For example:

Chapter 9 Working With Digital Media.

Viewing and cataloguing Pictures.
Playing Music.
Configuring Windows Media Centre Options.
Burning Audio and Data Disks.
Sharing Pictures and Other Digital Media Files.
Key Points.
Keyboard Shortcuts.

The other chapter titles are, 1: Getting started  with Windows Vista, 2: Working efficiently in Windows Vista, 3: Working with folders and files, 4: Personalizing Windows Vista, 5: Installing and configuring devices, 6: Safely and efficiently accessing the internet, 7: Working with programs, 8: Making connections, 9: Working With Digital Media. 10: Managing computer security. 11: Optimising your computer system. 12: Identifying and solving problems.

During my first 4 weeks of trying out Windows Vista, I had access to both this book and Windows Vista "Plain & Simple" by Jerry Joyce & Marianne Moon, both books are by Microsoft Press. I found that during the first 2 weeks I was using the "Plain & Simple" book, then during weeks 3 and 4 I found this book more appropriate. As both books/guides are aimed at the novice to intermediate computer user the question as to which one to recommend needed answering.

For those new to computing or with limited knowledge of Windows XP I would recommend Windows Vista "Plain and Simple". For those experienced with Windows XP, I would recommend  the Windows Vista "Step By Step".

Blenheim House Reviews highly recommend this book.
