Out of interest I decided to benchmark several generations of hard drives to see just how they have improved in performance.
 
Drive 1, Quantum Fireball Cr 8.4Gb ATA-66 Data Transfer Rate, 9.5 millisecond access time 5,400rpm spindle speed, and a 512kb buffer. Shown in pink in the Adia32 graphs.

Drive 2: Quantum Fireball LCT 20 40Gb Ultra-ATA/100 Data Transfer Rate, 12 millisecond access time , 4,500rpm spindle speed and a 128KB buffer. Shown in blue in the Adia32 graphs.
